New Ministry Opportunity List

ACCOLYTE ASSISTANT:  Adult volunteers are needed each week to assist our acolytes in preparing for worship.  Background check and training required.

ACTOR/ACTRESS:  Be a part of our drama department.  We have an annual production called “Laughter by the Lake” and also perform skits in worship services throughout the year. 

ADULT BIBLE STUDY TEACHER:  Teach adult Bible studies, short or long term, as part of our Wednesday night programs.  Program may expand to other weeknights.  Work with the Adult Ministries coordinator to plan and implement studies.

ADULT MINISTRY TEAM:  This team works with the Adult Ministries Director to plan studies and activities throughout the year.  This group also assists with communication and promotion of events.

ATLANTA COMMUNITY FOOD BANK:  Volunteer to inspect, sort, and pack donated food by yourself or organize a group to work on this project.  Shifts are 3 hours each and must be arranged in advance by contacting the Atlanta Community Food Bank’s Volunteer Coordinator Suzanne Roush.

AUDIO/VIDEO TECHNICIANS:  This team sets up and monitors the sound for music activities and worship services.

BLOOD DRIVE VOLUNTEERS:  Blood drives are held at AUMC on a quarterly basis.  Sign up donors, help with the canteen, or work the blood drive by registering donors on the day of the drive.

BULLETIN BOARD CHANGERS: Use your creative side to update our children’s ministry bulletin boards on a seasonal basis. 

CHAPERONES:  Adult supervision is always needed when children or youth have an event such as a lock in or retreat.  Volunteers are needed to help with this area.  Background check and training required.

CHILDREN’S MUSIC PROGRAM:  Volunteers are needed to help with the play productions in the areas of set design and construction, seamstress for costumes, stage hands, cook out celebration after spring play, and to provide adult supervision during some rehearsals.

CHILDREN’S SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER:  Teach 9:30 or 11:00 Sunday school classes for children’s ministry.  Curriculum is provided.  Background check and training required. 

CHURCH SIGN CHANGER:  This team is responsible for changing the signs on Hwy 92 and Collins Circle and keeping the signs updated with current activities and information.  This team also cleans the signs on a regular basis.

COMMUNICATIONS:  This team works on promoting church events in the community via newspaper, newsletters, and other avenues.  Works closely with the church staff to determine which events to promote, gather information, identify target audience, write any publicity information to be released, and follow up.

COMMUNITY EVENT HELPER:  Work with our Evangelism Team or Children’s Ministry to support community events such as Shop with a Hero and Acworth Parks and Recreation events.  Background check and training required for children’s ministry events.

COUNTERS:  This team takes care of counting, sorting, and recording all the offerings at the church.  The time commitment is one Sunday per month.

CURRICULUM ORGANIZER:  Works with the nursery department to organize and distribute materials to nursery classes.

DATA ENTRY (FINANCE):  A team of people who work with the counters on Sunday morning to input offering information into the financial database.

DATA ENTRY (SUNDAY SCHOOL):  This team is responsible for gathering Sunday School attendance information each Sunday, entering it onto a spreadsheet, and delivering Sunday School offering to counters for deposit.

FUEL ADULT LEADERSHIP TEAM:  This team is responsible for the leadership of the Wednesday night youth Bible studies for middle school and high school youth.  The Youth Director will organize the teacher rotation and curriculum selection. 

FUSION ADULT LEADERSHIP TEAM:  This team is responsible for leading our 6th grade confirmation program.  The Fusion Team Leader is responsible for organizing the teacher rotation for the lessons, planning special outings, planning the retreat, and working with the Youth Director on the overall organization of the program.  Fusion leaders are the adults responsible for attending Fusion, helping with special outings, and with sharing in a teacher rotation for the lessons.

GOD’S YARD MINISTRY:  A team of people who spend four to six Saturdays a year working to maintain and beautify the church grounds.

GREETER:  Be a part of the welcoming team that warmly greets everyone who is on their way to the worship service with a handshake and a smile and escorts visitors to the sanctuary.  These people give first impressions of friendliness, acceptance, and love to all who come to worship. 

HOSPITALITY:  This is a team of people who plan, coordinate, and serve food at our church for various events throughout the year. 

JERICHO TEAM:  This is a team of people who are trained to take down and set up the portable walls in the Family Life Center.  Team works on an as-needed basis, usually on Sundays. 

MUSICIAN:  Do you play an instrument such as drums, bass, guitar, or do you sing?  You can use your talents at AUMC!  We have a praise band (auditions required), annual choir productions, Sunday morning choir, and drama productions that would benefit from your talent. 

MISSIONS TEAM:  A team of people who work to educate the congregation and community on the needs in our community, state, nation, and world.  This team organizes various events throughout the year to support missionaries throughout the world.  Plan and participate in mission trips and activities.

NEWSLETTER:  Work with a team of people to prepare the bi-weekly newsletter for mailing.

NURSERY WORKERS:  Work with our young children on Sunday’s and/or Wednesday evenings to provide quality and loving care while parents are in worship or Bible study.  Background check and training required.

OFFICE VOLUNTEER:  Work in the church office to help answer phones and greet people.

PET THERAPY:  Brighten someone’s day by visiting patients in hospitals and nursing homes with your pet.  Training and screening would be required for you and  your pet.

PEW STUFFER:  Replenish paper, dinner slips, offering envelopes, etc. in the pews of the sanctuary and the chapel. 

PHOTOGRAPHER:  Take pictures of various events at Acworth UMC for use in publicity and website updates.

PRAYER ROOM MINISTRY: Be a prayer warrior by working with the team that prays for and follows up on every specific prayer request that comes through the prayer cards.

READERS:  Volunteers to read to kindergarten and first grade students every other Thursday at McCall Primary.

SEAMSTRESS:  Seamstress’ needed for drama ministry and children’s ministry productions.  Background check and training required.

SEASONAL EVENTS:  Work with the children’s ministry to provide our children with wonderful activities at Easter, Christmas, and Fall Festival Time.  Background check and training required.

SET DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION:  Design and build sets for children’s choir and drama productions.  Background check and training required.

SHEPHERDS:  Work closely with new members of AUMC as a friend and guide.  Help new members find a place to serve and a group to join (Sunday school or other small group study).

SINGLE PARENT FELLOWSHIP (SPF): This ministry offers support and encouragement for single parents.

SOUP AND SUNSHINE: Prepare, freeze, and deliver soup and bread to members of congregation who are ill.

SUBSITUTE TEACHERS:  If you cannot commit to teach a weekly class but want to work with our children, then you can volunteer to fill in when a regular teacher is absent.  Background check and training required.

SUPPLY CLOSET ORGANIZER: Work in children’s ministry supply closets on a regular basis to organize supplies and note when items need to be ordered. 

SUNDAY NIGHT LIVE HIGH SCHOOL ADULT LEADERSHIP TEAM:  This team is responsible for attending our high school youth program.  Adults are needed to lead small groups, welcome visitors, and give students an adult support network.  This team will help organize special trips and will attend Sunday night high school youth, lead small groups, and help with special events.

SUNDAY NIGHT LIVE MIDDLE SCHOOL ADULT LEADERSHIP TEAM:  This team is responsible for attending our middle school youth program.  Adults are needed to lead small groups, welcome visitors, and give students an adult support network.  This team will help organize special trips and will attend Sunday night middle school youth, lead small groups, and help with special events.

TRUSTEES:  This team works on the maintenance and upkeep of our church facilities.  Work as a committee to address any problems and maintenance issues that need attention.  Recruit volunteers who have skills and abilities to perform routine maintenance activities on our facilities.

USHER: Assist people at the worship service by handing out bulletins, overseeing the service, collecting offering, providing information to visitors, and assisting people when needed.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL: Preparation help, teachers, assistants, coordinators, preschool aides, nursery, snacks, arts and crafts, drama, registration, and much more!  A great way to spend a week of your summer helping kids grow in Christ. Background check and training required.

VAN DRIVERS:  Complete the van driver certification course and an application and  drive the van for various church groups.

VIDEOGRAPHER:  Film drama, adult choir, and children’s choir productions.

VISITATION TEAM:  This team takes a small gift and church information to first-time visitors.  This team works on Sunday afternoons.

WEBSITE COMMITTEE:   Assist AUMC webmaster.

WEDNESDAY DINNER CASHIER: This team is responsible for collecting money during the Wednesday night dinners.  Dinner is served from 5 – 6:30 pm each Wednesday.  Teams consist of two people who work 45 minute shifts.  Teams will work one to two Wednesday’s per month.

WEDNESDAY DINNER CLEAN UP:  This team assists the dinner preparation crew with kitchen clean up. 

WEDNESDAY NIGHT CHILDREN’S TEACHER:  Teach Wednesday night children’s Bible study.  Curriculum is provided.  Background check and training required.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT DINNER SETUP:  This team is responsible for setting up the Harrison Family Life Center for Wednesday night dinners.  The volunteers rotate days and are usually responsible for one to two Wednesday’s a month.  Responsibilities include wiping down tables, putting out all paper products, putting salt and pepper shakers on the table and refilling those as needed, and preparing drinks for the meal. Set up takes less than one hour.

WORSHIP TEAM:  This team works with the senior pastor to plan special worship events and ensure the sanctuary is prepared for all worship times.

YDC MINISTRY:  Visit Rome YDC and Paulding YDC for weekly Bible studies and for other special services throughout the year.

YOUTH SUNDAY SCHOOL ADULT LEADERSHIP TEAM:  This is the team of Sunday School teachers for our youth Sunday School classes.  This team is broken into smaller teams by time and age group.  You may teach once a month or every week.
